Winter Hair Blues?

Winter Hair Blues?

Summer is now a distant memory of Meg The Stallion fueling the flames to our hottest summer ever. Fall quickly cooled us down and now winter is here! *Insert Game of Thrones Meme.

The winter months can be hard on our hair, but it doesn’t have to be! Here are a few tips to remember during this cold time.

First, Moisturize! Just like the colder months can keep your skin dry, your hair is getting that same treatment. Think about using a hydrating conditioner and/or deep conditioner. Then lock in that moisture with a penetrating oil like Argan, Almond, or Jojoba. If your style can tolerate a heavier oil, try Jamaican Black Castor Oil. I love the Mango brand.

Next, Get a fresh cut! Winter is a great time to cut of the dead ends from our summer adventures in the sun or pool. We also tend to go lighter with our hair in the summer, so those ends can really get dried out and split. Get rid of those ends or get a whole new haircut to freshen up your look.

Avoid the urge to wash your hair in a scolding hot shower. It can be tempting when all you want is to be warm and cozy. Hot showers and baths dry out your skin and they definitely can dry out your hair. Luke warm to warm is a better choice. And Yes, what you heard about ending with a cold rinse is true! It seals your cuticles and promotes shine!

Lastly, keep it cute with accessories!! Don’t let winter blues get the best of you. Accessorize with silk scarves, headbands, clips and hats! Remember to use hats with safe fabrics or protect your hair with silk or satin first, then put on the hat.

Hopefully these tips can help you beat the winter blues and be ready for spring with healthy, shiny, moisturized hair.
